Social Media and New Marketing Strategy

Google Buys Feedburner

Just heard from David Dalka that google is acquiring feedburner, the amazing RSS syndication company. I’ve had feedburner handle all my RSS feeds on all of my blogs and I think they are brilliant and worthy of acquisition. In my mind feedburner has is such a leader in enabling, enhancing and managing RSS that they provide a very strategic foothold in a market that no one else has paid attention to. I think that it’s quite possible that RSS is going to become as important as email in the near future that any company taking a leadership position in that area can shape the market, and even make the market. Direct marketing companies are still trying to figure out how to get email past spam filters, and more and more people are consuming information via RSS. My two most important applications on my N95 is gmail and the google rss reader. Here’s a quick pic of what the google rss reader looks like in landscape mode on it, it’s sweet.

Anyway, I hope google actually does something with feedburner and doesnt’ ignore it like other acquisitions like blogger and dodgeball.
