killing comment spam

by Karl on December 1, 2004

I had reached the end of my teather with comment spam, it was a deluge, and although it wasn’t showing up because I had moderation turned on, I was getting hundreds of emails a day telling me that spam was awaiting my moderation. It’s not like I have a tonne of comment activity, but as with many things in my life like love, work and money… hope springs eternal. So I had to do somthing about the comment spammers that didn’t involve me wasting lots of my bandwidth. Well I’m pleased to sayy that i now have a pretty sophisticated detterent that involves the commenter copying random text from an image, no registering, no moderation, just copying a few human readable letters from an image.
